*Snell-Zimmerman-Timmerman Family Reunion*

*Spring 2020 Newsletter*

Hello family members

Our country is facing a new attack which has caused a lot of problems for
all of us. The entire country was shut down to mitigate the spread of the
virus so the healthcare system would not be overwhelmed. Our family and our
country faced difficult problems before and we will overcome this one as
well

We held a board meeting on Memorial Day weekend and discussed the annual
family reunion. We still have it scheduled for the first week in August but
we have to wait for out governor to approve of large gatherings in New York
State. The board also decided to not hold the profitable ice cream social
and luncheon because we want to adhere to the social distancing guidelines
and we are concerned for the health of our family. The board will meet
again in the beginning of July to finalize the reunion or decide to
postpone it. Before the board meets in July, we are looking for input from
the entire family about holding our reunion this year or postponing it to
next year. If we do hold the reunion, we would only hold a church service
outside and spread out the chairs for the service. We could also have a
walking tour of our cemetery speaking about our ancestors and set up tours
of other local cemeteries and family sites

If you are in the area and would like to visit the Snells Bush Church, we
would be happy to open the church for you to visit. Just let us know.

*Let us know if you are planning to attend the reunion (if we are given
clearance to have it this summer). *

*Email us at sarahtisrael at yahoo.com <sarahtisrael at yahoo.com> or call us at

The board reviewed the below items in the meeting

   - Reviewed the 2020 Annual Reunion
      - Ice cream social and luncheon was canceled due to adhering to the
      social distancing guidelines
      - There may be a possibility for an outside church service and reunion
   - We removed a window on the north side of the building in early spring
in order to replace the wood. It is expected to return by the fall and will
be rehung. It will be great to have more windows in the church operating
   correctly.
   - Our carpenter, who is on the board, in planning on constructing a
handicap ramp and repair the lights in the stain glass windows at the front
   of the church.
   - The mowing contract was renewed because we were very pleased with the
   work they did last year.
   - We have four scheduled weddings for this year.
   - Painting of the church is still in process. The painter is planning to
complete the scraping and painting of the front wall this year. After the
exterior painting is complete, we will start looking at bids for painting
   the interior.
   - When the painter starts working on the steeple, we will need a lift
for him to reach the top on the steeple. While we have the lift for the
work on the steeple, we will also replace the bulbs in the steeple. The
bulbs are eight car head lights in two separate levels on the steeple.
   - Future Projects
      - We need to restore both cemeteries their glory. The stones need to
      be cleaned, straightened, and reset.
      - We also looking into restoring our land grant patent from King
George III. We are researching the estimated cost and of the
patent and it
      will be discussed in 2020.
      - The fence in the lower cemetery needs some fixing, some trees have
fallen along the edge of the lower cemetery and in the upper
cemetery, and
poison ivy is starting to grow in various places. I remember
when I was a
child I was not allowed to walk around the cemetery because it
was full of
poison ivy and it seems it is still there.
      - Repair the inside walls of the church because some of the plaster
cracked when the building frame was repaired

During the winter, I worked on the address list and scanned old photos and
documents and created an archival scrap book. I also have been going
through old notes and noticed the documents and pictures are fading. We
need to preserve these documents so our younger generations can truly
understand our family history. Most of these items are family genealogy
that we received from various family members and notes from Emma Timmerman
and Carolyn Sidenius. I also have been reviewing the booklet consisting of
newspaper notes on various people living in the town of Manheim (written by
Carolyn Sidenius and Mary Snell). The documents contain information on the
Snells living in town of Manheim and others that have a connection to the
Snells.

I received an interesting e-mail from Mr. Hicks, the new superintendent of
the North African American Cemetery located in Carthage, Tunisia. He wanted
to let the SZT family know that Lyman Stephen Timmerman is no longer buried
in Tehran, Iran and is now buried in a US military cemetery in Tunisia.

Lyman Stephen was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Orlin Timmerman (cousin to Emma
Timmerman). He was born in Little Falls New York on February 5, 1896 and
died on May 5, 1944 in Iran from heart complications. He was buried with
military honors both in US military cemetery in Iran and Tunisia. During
World War One, he served as an US Army Air Force pilot stationed in the
Middle East. When he returned home from the war, he married Katherine
Walrath (from Long Island) in November 15, 1920 and worked with the Bureau
of Municipal Research in New York City.

He was asked by the US State Department and Iranian government to work as
administrator to organize police system in large cities in Iran. He began
work there in 1942 and had been noted as an outstanding authority on the
establishment of law enforcement agencies.

Nancy Cioch received a phone call a few years ago about letters found at a
house sale in California. They were letters that Stephen wrote to a friend
in Texas during World War One.

Though out the years, the SZT family members have done many interesting
things that have improved America. These stories are outstanding, such as
living on the frontier, looking for gold in California, medical doctor on
the frontier, defending their homes from hostile Colonial Powers and
Indians, homesteading in Canada or Mexico and exploring the plains of our
country.

Kevin Jorrey, our web master would like family stories to put on the web.
We need to put new items on the web—photos as always nice to send to Kevin.
Please also send any updates on the genealogy of your family. The only the
name is published to the web—no other information.

Please contact us either by email or snail mail with any updates and
stories that we can share with the family (births, marriages , and
deaths). If you updated your mailing address or e-mail address please also
let us know. We will also need to additional donations for this this year
because we will not have our profitable ice cream social.

It takes a lot of time and funds to keep our Snells Bush Church in order
and funds are always needed. Currently, the only way that we receive funds
is from donations from our family members and the ice cream social. There
are two ways that you can donate to our church to keep the reunion going
every year. The first is by sending in donations and the second is to
volunteer for a position or run a fund raising event. We are always looking
for new types of fund raisers we are looking at our younger family members
to organize and run the event.

As usual we have genealogy books available they hold a lot of information
on the early families that lived and worked and attended Snells Bush Church
those many years ago. The stories are wonderful in these books and every
member needs to have copies of these genealogy books. Tell your children,
grandchildren and great grandchildren about these stories. This is your
heritage be proud of it. Also we need updates on your family history—who
died—who got married—and who is the new arrival in your immediate family.
It is important to keep this information up to date.

The SZT Family would like to wish everyone a great summer and if you are in
the area please contact us to visit Snells Bush, we will be happy to open
the church for you to visit.

Sincerely

Bill Timmerman President

20th century. A fifth book extends David Martin’s 18th Century Snell Family
by continuing the descendants of Peter Snell into the 20th century.
