Snell-Zimmerman-Timmerman Family Reunion Spring newsletter 2018Dear CousinsIt is spring—I think as we are still getting cold days andthen warm days. Everything is slow in growing this year but soon spring will begone and summer will be here. The SZTreunion will be soon coming August 5,2018. It will be here before youknow it. This year will be the 80th reunion since Emma Timmerman stoodon the table, gave a speech to save the church from demolition, and started thereunion at Klock Park back in 1938. Throughthe years we have worked hard to keep this church and cemeteries in good shape. We need help from all the members of the reunion to keep everything going. Comeplan to visit the church and all its history and celebrate at our 80th reunion on August 5,2018. We will have a traditional church service as required to keep thename St Paul’s Dutch Reformed church followed by a brief meeting, and lunchprovided by the board(hot dogs & salads). Donations will be accepted forthe lunch expenses. We will have an icecream social on Saturday night a 6 pmAugust 4, 2018 at the church. It is sonice to sit and eat ice cream and enjoy the setting of sun over thevalley. Even in the rain the view isstill wonderful. We will have are-dedication to our soldiers buried in the cemetery that fought in the wars(Revolutionary war, War of 1812, and WWI) to keep our country safe.During the winter I worked on the E-mail and snail mail listto try to update and keep it current. It is a giant project and is constantlychanging. Please send us your change ofe-mail or snail mail addresses. Alsolet us know if a family member has died. We try to keep the records at thechurch up to date. We also would like changes in family marriages and births ofnew additions to families. Due to the ever increasing cost of snail mail, wewould appreciate a small donation to continue receiving your hard copy of thenewsletter. The church looks fine and we will continue painting thisyear. One side was done last year andthen the painter got sick. He will workon scraping and painting the rest of the building this year. We had one company fix one of our windows inwhich they did a good job but alas they have not returned our phone calls tothem so we will find another company to work on the windows. Our cemeteries need some help. In the lower cemetery a tree fell down andwas taken care of. There seems to be two markers that need fixing as they fellover. Of course all the stones need cleaning. The side near the woods needs tobe cleaned up a little. As for thecemetery around the church, work needs to be done. Since we had a difficult winter many of thestones need to be straightened. A few fell over and work will be done tocorrect these problems. We also have a giant dead tree that needs to be takendown and again that will be worked on. We are officially 501c3 – Public charity– for the church and the cemetery. The Violet festival will be held in Dolgevilleagain this year on June 9. The festival lasts the whole weekend and the paradeand events get bigger each year. Garagesales are all over the villages and craft booths are lined up along Main Street.Last year we had a float in the parade for Snell Bush church. I got the local high school class to design afacsimile of the church and also the old fire house (now the Dolgevillehistorical society home). We need tosupport the history of the Town of Manheim in which Dolgeville is located. I was surprised the see the community acknowledgethe float as we went by – by clapping. It was great to see that the community feels that Snells Bush Church isan important part of the Town of Manheim. By having the float in the parade it also reminds every one of the icecream social and our annual church service that is open to the community tocome and participate. Also with ourcommunity involvement: We have twoweddings this year scheduled in the fall.I have to report sad news of the passing of our secretaryAlice Fake who was 83 died May 16, 2018. She has been our secretary for many years. Alice was always willing to help out and shesinglehanded organized our church service program, got the minister and musicarrangements each year. She also remembered the flowers and found speakers, arrangedconcerts and guest soloist for the reunion as well as being our recordingsecretary. We will miss her as she was amain stay to the reunion. A memorial service will be held June 1, at theMethodist Church in Dolgeville. Another old member of the reunion also died onMay 16, 2018—Rev Adrian Gray. He was anactive member of the reunion for many years helping out with the ministerialefforts of the reunion. He was 93. He was president of the SZT Reunion forseveral years. Our web site—szt-genealogy.org is run by Kevin Jorrey. Please send him updates of your family –birth, marriage, death.
